Riding Rollie to work.

14 Apr

Hey, why not ride your horse to your job? I’ve always wanted to try that. Well, today I decided it’s a good day to show Rollie where I work. It helps that my job is actually at a farm. The ride took no longer than 20 minutes, and Rollie got to meet the stars (the horses, lamas, goats, donkeys, and potbellied pigs) at Arion Therapeutic Farm. He also made friends with all the people, and he really liked Vernita who came along in her wheelchair. He put his nose in her lap and said hello.  I think Rollie wouldn’t mind being a therapy horse.

The present and past

14 Apr

I wish I could have taken a video to capture this moment. However, this moment is definitely saved in my memory forever now. As I left the clinic last weekend, driving the truck with Link standing in the horse trailer, we passed the horse pasture where my former horse Mani lives. I had owned Mani for 10 years and with a heavy heart, sold him eight years ago to his new home. April 9th, the day of the clinic was also Mani’s 24th birthday. As we drove by Mani’s pasture I wished Mani ”happy birthday, my old boy!” Mani saw the horse trailer; and through the trailer window Link saw Mani on the field. Link who has never met Mani, whinnied to him, and Mani whinnied back, then galloped along side of us in the distance. He looked so graceful running and watching us go by.

In that precious moment, my past and my present melded into one; it made me happy to see Mani still so full of life, and sad thinking of all the tears I had shed when I sold Mani because I missed him so much. I got Link because I knew I couldn’t be without a horse, and he helped me over the loss of Mani’s companionship. I still think of Mani often and go visit him, I have never forgotten him. This moment was a beautiful one in my life, seeing my present and my past meeting up for a few seconds. It was as if my old friend Mani flew along with us in the wind, while my new friend Link traveling with me in the trailer said “Hello Mani, don’t worry, she hasn’t forgotten you! I will take good care of her!”

In that instance I could see how I and my horse buddies have walked a full circle, and what seemed like an ending is only a continuation of our lives.
I love you both, Mani and Link! Thank you my boys, for taking good care of me.

Tteam Touch & Connected Riding clinic

14 Apr

Although the wind was blowing and it was a cool spring day, Link and I took in a wonderful clinic last Saturday in Lakeview Heights. The clinician was Mandy Pretty, niece of Linda Tellington-Jones who wrote the books on Tteam Touch. We learned various touches to relax and ground the horses in the morning. The afternoon was used for learning connected riding techniques. We got to use the balance rein to relax o0ur horses and let them stretch.

The clinic was put on by Christa Lange who operates Take 2 Riding Cinics. The clinic was well organized and enjoyable.

Here are some pictures of Link and I at the clinic with Mandy Pretty instructing us.

A neat gift idea for the horse lover.

04 Apr

For my birthday in March I received a year’s subscription to RFD TV. It’s a live streaming and on demand video website with equine content, and now I can watch good horse videos nonstop!  High quality horse trainers from Pat Parelli to Ken McKnab, Clinton Anderson, Julie Goodnight, Craig Cameron, and more are all here showing their skill. Also of interest is Best of America on Horseback, which really gets me inspired to go horse camping soon! There are such scenic riding trails in America. Also interesting are the Equestrian Nation videos, showing horses in Europe. I love these videos! Tonight I think I’ll watch the episode on Patrick Swayze’s Arabians, and Roy Roger’s last interview, “The King of Cowboys”. Well, gotta go!

The website is http://www.rfdtv.com/

Horses play April Fools joke!

03 Apr

We have a new plant species growing on the horse manure pile. It looks suspiciously like a palm tree.

How did it get there? Why would it grow on the manure pile?  Ask Link and Rollie, they know. It appeared there April 1st.
