Development Programs for Youth

Are you ready for your Horse Journey?

Equine Facilitated Learning Sessions (for children and youth)

Karin Bauer is pleased to offer an exciting, individualized program designed specifically for children with unique challenges. This program is offered in a beautiful, quiet, relaxed location with well-trained, gentle horses in a natural environment and with hands-on learning experiences. The program will benefit especially children who might have challenges in a busy group atmosphere as this personalized program consists of one-one sessions with Karin, the instructor and the horses.

Equine Facilitated Learning Sessions are usually 1 hour in length, and tailored to your child's unique needs. In these sessions your child will learn Horsemanship (learning about horses, feeding, grooming, caring), Groundwork (leading and lunging a horse in the round pen, gaining skills in handling a horse) and exploring how these skills relate to their day to day life (confidence & self-esteem building, communication, leadership, boundaries, and more!). Please note, there is no actual riding with this program. Learning Groundwork allows your child to form a close connection with a horse in a non-intimidating,  relaxed way. This approach has proven to be very effective for anyone wanting to learn emotional intelligence. A cozy cabin is on site to utilize for arts/crafts or counseling.

Goals and Mission of the Program:

By working with horses in a therapeutic setting, children and youth can learn skills and techniques that are transferable to their own life. Learning goals include: improved communication, relaxation, cognitive focus, emotional well-being, empathy, reduction in anxiety, increase in confidence, improvement in self-esteem, fun and enjoyment in the outdoors, and stress reduction.

Program length is on a monthly basis, consisting of four 1 hour sessions per month (To meet your child's needs, program sessions can be shorter or longer. An introductory meeting will help us tailor the program.)
